World ranking: 18
Scottish ranking: 5
Number of British Open:
28
Architect: Unknown
Creation date: circa 1410
Par: 72
Distance from Edinburgh: 75 km
Distance from Glasgow: 155 km
Distance from Inverness: 240 km

The world famous golf course is a classic links course. Here Golf began 600 years ago, on public land, to which everyone can have access.

In the top 5 of the best courses in the world, the Old course is totally unique for two reasons; firstly because of its long history and secondly because golfers have to play certain shots here that they will play nowhere else, (for example, a 60 metres putt!).

The name of the architect is unknown but mother-nature has shaped this magnificent piece of land over the centuries, like most Scottish golf courses.

The land is flat and has gigantic greens, with seven greens shared between two holes each.

The course is also characterised by shared fairways, 112 Scottish deep bunkers and many “blind” shots.

At only 6,041 yards (from the championship tees), the Old course is not an easy course, especially when the wind decides to become part of the game.

You will enjoy certain special parts of the course such as the “hell bunker”, the “road hole”, the “swilican bridge”, and the opportunity to start and finish your round in town.

New Course

Scottish ranking: 18
Architect: Old Tom Morris
Creation date: 1895
Par: 71
Distance from Edinburgh: 75 km
Distance from Glasgow: 155 km
Distance from Inverness: 240 km

The Old Course is not the only course in St Andrews. The New Course is the second course in town, built in 1895, by Old Tom Morris.
It is a challenging lay-out with many features of the Old Course, like two double greens, shared fairways and the traditional “out and back” layout.
The first few holes are parallel to the Old Course, only separated by a path. This is a great traditional links course to play, when the Old course is fully booked.

Jubilee Course

Scottish ranking: 50
Architect: Old Tom Morris
Creation date: 1897
Par: 72
Distance from Edinburgh: 75 km
Distance from Glasgow: 155 km
Distance from Inverness: 240 km

Built two years after the New Course, in 1897, this centenary course is the longest course at St Andrews, with its 6,162 yards from the championship tees.
This layout requires accurate driving and lots of skill to stop the ball close to the hole.

Eden Course

Scottish ranking: 79
Architect: Harry S. Colt
Creation date: 1914
Par: 70
Distance from Edinburgh: 75 km
Distance from Glasgow: 155 km
Distance from Inverness: 240 km

This course, built in 1914, is an interesting and challenging lay-out but less difficult in comparison with its neighbours, the Old, the New and the Jubilee Courses.
There are generous fairways, lots of contours around the greens, and lovely views from the third and fourth holes across the Eden Estuary toward the Leuchars Air Base.
