World ranking: 18
Scottish ranking: 5
Number of British Open:
28
Architect: Unknown
Creation date: circa 1410
Par: 72
Distance from Edinburgh: 75 km
Distance from Glasgow: 155 km
Distance from Inverness: 240 km

The world famous golf course is a classic links course. Here Golf began 600 years ago, on public land, to which everyone can have access.

In the top 5 of the best courses in the world, the Old course is totally unique for two reasons; firstly because of its long history and secondly because golfers have to play certain shots here that they will play nowhere else, (for example, a 60 metres putt!).

The name of the architect is unknown but mother-nature has shaped this magnificent piece of land over the centuries, like most Scottish golf courses.

The land is flat and has gigantic greens, with seven greens shared between two holes each.

The course is also characterised by shared fairways, 112 Scottish deep bunkers and many “blind” shots.

At only 6,041 yards (from the championship tees), the Old course is not an easy course, especially when the wind decides to become part of the game.

You will enjoy certain special parts of the course such as the “hell bunker”, the “road hole”, the “swilican bridge”, and the opportunity to start and finish your round in town.

Architect: Tom Kidd
Creation date: 2008
Par: 71
Distance from Edinburgh: 80km
Distance from Glasgow: 130km
Distance from Inverness: 235km
Distance from Aberdeen 130km

This is the new golf course, opened in 2008, at the home of golf and run by the municipal Links trust, which is in charge of the other golf courses in town.

People call it The Castle course or number 7. Located in the South part of the town, on a cliff, the course offers spectacular views of the sea and on the old town of St Andrews.

Creation date: 1832
Par: 71
Distance from St Andrews: 130 km
Distance from Edinburgh: 40 km
Distance from Glasgow: 120 km
Distance from Inverness: 300 km

This the 13th oldest golf course in the world, founded in 1832 and probably one of the courses that is closest to the origins of the game.
The architect is unknown but people will tell you that “mother nature” created this stunning classic links course.
It is one of the most attractive links courses in the country with some magnificent holes where you feel as though you are walking on the beach.
Great value for money. Of particular interest is the 13th hole which is unique, with a wall separating the fairway from the green.
