The oldest professionnal competition, The Open, was born in 1860 and has been held over 14 different golf courses in Great-Britain, 7 in Scotland, 6 in England and only 1 in Northen Ireland. 5 of them in Scotland are still used for The Open such as the Old Course in St Andrews, Muirfield, Troon, Carnoustie and Turnberry. St Andrews (Old Course): 28 times (1873, 1876, 1879, 1882, 1885, 1888, 1891, 1895, 1900, 1905, 1910, 1921, 1927, 1933, 1939, 1946, 1955, 1957, 1960, 1964, 1970, 1978, 1984, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010).
