The new golf course in St. Andrews, the Castle Course, is now open. It is located just about 6 minutes by car south of the town. It belongs to the town and it is run by the Links Trust which is also responsible for the other 6 public courses which are the Old Course, the New Course, the Jubilee, the Eden, the Strathtyrum and the Balgove.
Golf course architect David McLay Kidd was called upon to create a links here out of the flat farmland, and he did so by bringing in a lot of sand and creating large dunes. The greens are in most cases very large and have swales and dips in them that can make putting and chipping very fun and challenging. Golf would be a boring game with flat greens!
It is already ranked in the top 100 best courses in the world outside the United States. The course is very popular because it is totally different than the other flat courses in town, sitting on the cliff offering sea views on every holes and amazing views other the old town of St Andrews.
The course close from beginning of November to end of March to allow growth to the course, much like Kingsbarns has done in its first few years of operation.
